Stevie Wonder's "Talking Book" was a recent release and 'You Are The Sunshine of My Life' a pop chart hit when he appeared at Winterland in March. Wonder had played gigs for Bill Graham before, and opened for the Stones at this same venue in 1972. In a retrospective moment years later, the self-confident realist Graham said "... Any band that ever opened for the Stones, it always did great things for them... [and]... crossed them over into brand-new markets."
