After a three year absence, the El Camino was re-introduced in 1964 on the Chevelle/Malibu platform. The 1964 (and subsequent) El Caminos were an immediate hit with the public. A Super Sport (SS) version of the El Camino was produced each year, starting in 1968. From 1971 to 1977, GMC produced a version of the El Camino called the GMC Sprint. In 1978, it became the GMC Caballero.
