"Video Game Control Unit" "Patent number D255565: The ornamental design for a video game control unit, as shown and described." Filed March 16, 1978, this was the debut of the iconic joystick. For many of us, the Atari 2600's was the first console controller any of us ever held. And it was divine. What's the saying? "You don't know what you don't know?" It had one button. And the designers had to specify "Top" on later models because folks were easily confused (including the people who printed this tee, see below). Today's controllers have 6-8 buttons standard, not a one of them labeled, and writing "top" would be a sacrilege. Ah, input devices. How we've evolved.
