I went into the movie thinking it would be a teenage gothic angst film (which isn't a bad thing), but walked out astonished at how intelligent and deep the movie managed to be, without being obvious! Most people enter Donnie Darko thinking Jake Gyllenhaal, or Frank The Rabbit, or Sparkle Motion, or gothic... but they leave thinking time travel, humanity, human relationship and the end of the world. Pretty deep.
