Nutritionally, genetically engineered foods alter the way our bodies process food. What's alarming is how these modified crops are contaminating other non-modified crops, through natural pollination. Butterfly effect t-shirt. The idea of the butterfly effect is that something as apparently insignificant as the beat of a butterfly's wings can have a massive effect on atmospheric conditions, for example causing (or preventing) a tornado. This notion comes from chaos theory. If we extrapolate we can conclude that our own efforts, although they sometimes seem futile, can in fact have important and possibly magnificent consequences for the Earth and those around us. Shark finning is the practice of hacking the fins off the shark on board the fishing vessel and throwing its body - dead or alive - back into the sea. This practice claims the lives of millions of sharks each year and is pushing many previously common species of shark to the brink of extinction. Why is there such a demand for shark fins?
